How Pears and Peaches Can Make You £1000

So how can fruit make me money?

Well, if you have been reading any of my previous posts you’ll know that I am in the process of saving £1000 in 90 days (or less). You may also know that in the last post, I managed to blast that half inch layer of fat off my belly in 90 days previous to now.

I actually weighed myself today. I’m in my parents’ house in Ireland and they have a set of scales. I remember in late April I was 11 stone 4 lbs. Now I’m 10 stone 8 lbs. So that’s basically 12 lbs in 90 days. That’s not bad!

But back to the topic: How Pears and Peaches Can Make You £1000?

As part of the process of losing the fat I changed my diet. I took 10% of what I ate (chocolate and cakes) and replaced them with fruit and nuts. I was in the supermarket one day and noticed this shelf full of tinned fruit but also plastic tubs of fruit. Of one type of fruit in each.

That’s handy I thought. They are cheap enough and could last for about 7 days or so. These tubs are pears on the left and peaches on the right. In juice, not in any super sugary fluid.

Well I started buying these on a regular basis and after a while I noticed that I was building up quite a nice collection of plastic tubs…

So ahh maybe I can use these to hold all that change lying about my desk and sitting in plastic bags on the floor. Well, I started storing my change in them instead:

Specifically I separated out my change: £1 coins and 50p would go in one tub. 20p and less went in another tub (like the tub in the photo)

I re-use the change in the £1-50p tub; it never gets full. But the 20p or less tub, fills up.

And when it fills up, I take it to one of those coin bank machines and cash it in. Typically I get about £35 to £40 back.

Now I know some of the machines charge like 8% or 9% commission and its about £4 usuallly. But some banks in the UK (at least), like HSBC, have them in branches and they don’t change ANYTHING. You only need to have an account with them. That you can set up for free.

So how is this £35 to £40 really going to help?

Well, since saving money and getting notes back for change is part of my whole discipline to get £1000 in 90 days…Pears and Peaches are helping me make that £1000. They are adding and reinforcing my saving and money discipline. And as an added bonus: they are helping me stay slim!

Now, some people may already have a big jar or bottle that you put change into. I had this but I didn’t cash it in as much. I was a bit lazy.

But because I am eating the pears and peaches regularly…I regularly end up with empty screw top plastic tubs. And it’s this churn out rate of tubs that motivates me to fill them with change and go cash it in.

And what’s good as well is that I can just throw the empty tub in the recycle bin afterward! I’m going to be getting more soon enough!

So…if you want to start cashing in your coins instead of leaving them there for months not doing anything…go out today and buy some fruit in tubs. And start eating them over the week.

Then you’ll have a handy coin bank and you’ll have eaten better that week!
