The Little Things About Changing Your Diet: White Bread
I was thinking about this the other day.
Of all the little things that it is recommended that you change in your diet to lose weight, getting rid of eating white bread is high up there. You’ve probably read about processed carbs and the Big 3: White bread, pasta and white rice….They get demonized a lot…you’ll hear, “..you shouldn’t eat them at all. If you want to get ripped etc etc etc”…”..you can’t go on eating them and expect to lose weight…’. It’s almost as if the minute you eat one slice or a bowl of fusilli, it’s all downhill.
Now there is a reason behind it and it’s good advice in the long run, but I was thinking, for the average 25 to 45 year old guy who just wants to lose that gut the question really is….
Can you still eat white bread and lose weight?
Well, yes you can. Of course you can. BUT…..it’s better if you swap it for some wholemeal or granary bread. And if you are going to eat it I would recommend getting the freshly baked stuff.
Remember the 10% eating rule – eat 10% less of processed foods and swap 10% with some other type of food, like nuts or fruit.
I still eat white bread and white rice. I still eat pasta from time to time. I just don’t eat a lot of it. And I’ll give you another little secret about how I really helped myself do this:
I started eating bananas on toast in the morning
It just tastes better on granary or wholemeal bread. Or being Irish, on wheaten bread (brown soda). Because I still have my toast, I started buying granary loaves and wholemeal loaves (I alternate)..and those sliced bananas on two bits of toast….just taste lovely!!
So here’s the thing then: If you want to start swapping out white bread for wholemeal or granary, start with what you have for breakfast. See what 7 days of eating bananas on granary toast does for you.
I think you’ll like it.
